Introspection

Self-deception evolves to serve deceit.

It would appear that if you can be completely blind to aspects of your own personality, you can more easily deceive others about a range of things. If you think about this, the liar is more likely to be the one that fails to introspect. But then selective exposure and honesty is another way to conceal things...

I agree that if one is conscious that one is kidding/lying to oneself, then they are clearly not blind to aspects of their own personality.
What I was trying to say, though, is more along the lines of one not really examining ones own personality honestly. For example, by excusing ones faults to themselves.
Also, if one is not willing to admit to fully themselves their own faults, how could they reveal their own faults honestly to another person?

About honesty concealing things - some people may be extremely honest about certain things that they're comfortable with (which others might struggle to admit), but dishonest about other things.
