Ignorance

Often enquiring about the certainty of another's opinions shows very quickly how ignorant they are; there are some people who believe very strongly that we (and/or humans) know a lot, and others who are sure we know very little.

And others have no idea what exactly, the fuck, "knows a lot" or "knows little" means.

Well, what DOES it mean? Is there a certain standard by which knowledge can be measured?

A lot or a Little...

sounds like the beginning of a kids song doesn't it?

who cares. I mean if they really knew, they wouldn't put themselves in a position of absolution to that rhetorical pondering.

ecd-Well, take, for example, science. We learn things through it, but learning something through experiment only seems to raise many more questions than it explained.

I guess, yes, we'd have to say "i think i know more about x than person y" does, but otherwise - the standard isn't absolute.

the question is how many things within human experience a given person thinks that they can explain; i am always amazed when i hear comments from people that "humans may be on the verge of discovering the ultimate underlying reality or the grand theory that"... people speculating that we're somehow going to reach a point where we can explain everything. these are the people who i think claim to "know a lot", and by that measure, i think they are ridiculous, and that we all "know only a little" and are striving to understand a little more all the time.
